Your home from home in the Welsh countryside
Kingfisher Cottage /No.10 Dulas
The perfect Welsh country retreat
Come in and explore our cosy holiday cottage
Our warm and welcoming two-bedroom Victorian holiday cottage is the ideal base for a visit to the quaint and quirky town of Hay on Wye, nestled beneath the Black Mountains and in the heart of an area of outstanding natural beauty.
Recently fully refurbished, you’ll find the authentic charm of a cottage in the Welsh countryside, but with all the mod-cons and plenty of extra touches that we think make all the difference.
Easy to find and ideally located tucked away on a private terrace, you’ll enjoy peace and tranquillity but be only moments from the market town centre. There is free parking in a private car park beside the cottage for up to two cars so it’s really easy and convenient.
Inside, the kitchen is kitted out with an integrated electric hob, oven & grill, a microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and washing machine. We keep it well stocked with fresh tea towels, washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets, kitchen roll and condiments. No need to sweat the small stuff here!
A bright and cosy living room with a dining room table and comfy seating to sink into also has Freesat TV, a DVD player, fast WiFi and gas flame effect log burner. There is nothing better than curling up in front of a warm fire after a day rambling in the hills, paddling down the river or trawling the bookshops, especially in the chilly winter months.
Upstairs there are two bedrooms, one with a king-sized double bed and the other a single bed with plenty of storage in both rooms. The bathroom has wonderfully warming underfloor heating, heated towel rail and a walk-in shower. The cottage is centrally heated and there is always a constant supply of hot water. Bed linen, towels and bathroom essentials, including shampoo and hand soap, are all taken care of.
At the back of the property, a lovely garden reaches down to the Dulas Brook. Two patio areas have been set up - one with a picnic bench perfect for joyful alfresco dinners (the Welsh weather does permit sometimes we promise!), and the other ideally positioned for wildlife watching beside the water. If you’re lucky, Otters, Kingfishers and nesting Dunnocks, as well as hedgehogs and all manner of other stream-side inhabitants can be spotted.
For the outdoor adventurers, you’ll have use of a lockable outbuilding for secure storage of bikes or any other equipment you might have. There is also heating so you can dry your wet outdoor gear ready for the next day of escapades.
Beyond the cottage you have a lot of exploring to do, but everything is conveniently located. You are just 5 minutes’ walk away from the heart of Hay with eclectic shops, bustling cafes, characterful pubs and all those world-famous second-hand bookshops to get lost in! Down the road, also a mere hop, skip and a jump, is a fairly sizeable supermarket to keep you fully stocked up.
The town has so much to offer including the greatly renowned Hay Literature Festival but beyond the town you have the stunning Black Mountains and Brecon Beacons mountain ranges with endless walking, cycling, canoeing, fishing and other outdoor activities to entertain you. You’ll find Kingfisher cottage/No.10 your home from home in the welsh countryside.
