Welcome to Dark Orchard, a Caravan & Motorhome Club Certified Location Site on the edge of Hay-on-Wye
Dark Orchard is a quiet, relaxing and secluded site tucked away on the edge of Hay-on-Wye, Independent Kingdom and internationally renowned Town of Books, yet only a 5 minute walk to the shops, restaurants, pubs and other amenities that this unique Welsh Marches market town has to offer.
Dark Orchard is level, well sheltered, with 5 well-mown grass pitches spread over a 2½ acre site, with plenty of space for awnings and pup tents etc. The site is bordered on one side by the Dulas Brook and divided by the Nantyglasdwr stream.
We welcome families and pets. Dogs must be kept under total control at all times in the interest of other site users and farm animals in the adjacent fields. Any mess must be cleared up immediately. We regularly see a lot of wildlife at the site including kingfishers, dippers, red kites, buzzards, hedgehogs and otters playing in the brook.
Beyond the site you have a lot of exploring to do, but everything is conveniently located. You are just 5 minutes’ walk away from the heart of Hay with eclectic shops, bustling cafes, characterful pubs and all those world-famous second-hand bookshops to get lost in! The local supermarket is just a 5 minute walk away to keep you fully stocked up. Ideally placed to explore the Brecon Beacons National Park, Welsh Borders and Wye Valley with walking, cycling and canoeing. Plenty of family and dog friendly walks direct from the site as well as Offas Dyke and Wye Valley Walk long distance footpaths.
No 10 Dulas, our self-catering holiday cottage, is right by the entrance to the site.

"Tucked away on the edge of town this site is the ideal location for exploring Hay on Wye, taking the Wye River walks or enjoying the surrounding countryside. Being tucked away it is not the easiest to find but the owners do a great job with directions and signposting the gate. Don't be put off by the narrow track we got in easily in our motorhome and so did a large caravan and Landrover. The turn out again was a bit tight. We would definitely come here again it is all about the location. Plenty of dog walks and swimming in the river. Great coffee and food at The Granary in town and dog-friendly pubs. The site itself has a water point and waste which was great. The owners are friendly and around if needed. Highly recommend." - Tania, July 2018
"Dark Orchard is a lovely site. It is hard to beleive it is on the edge the town of Hay-on-Wye, it feels very rural and quiet. It is a flat field mostly surrounded by trees and with a small stream running along the edge which adds interest. The water and waste points appear to have been upgraded recently. Access is good though very large caravans might find the turn off the lane a bit sharp. The local Co-op is conveniently close and the town is only 5 to 10 mins walk." - Jonathan, May 2018
